How to set up OpenVPN on TP-Link Wireless router

In this article, we will go through the steps of setting up OpenVPN via the TP-Link Wireless router.

You will need a Surfshark subscription, which you can purchase via our pricing page, and a TP-Link Wireless router.

 

Credentials and server selection

Before setting up OpenVPN, you will need to obtain the credentials for the manual setup and select a server to connect to.
 

NOTE: These are not your regular credentials, such as your email and password.
 

To get your credentials, follow the steps below:

  1. Head to the Surfshark login page and log in.
  2. Click on VPN


     
  3. Select manual setup:


     
  4. Select set up manually.


     
  5. Choose the OpenVPN protocol:


     
  6. Save the credentials that are shown:

 

Choose a Surfshark VPN server

To download a Surfshark OpenVPN server, follow the steps below:

  1. Head to locations under the OpenVPN tab:


     
  2. Click on the download icon to the right of the server you would like to download:


     
  3. Select either TCP or UDP:

 

Configuring the TP-Link Wireless router

To set up Surfshark OpenVPN on your TP-Link Wireless router, follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to your router interface
  2. Open the advanced section:



  3. Click VPN Client:



  4. Enable the VPN Client option:



  5. In the server list section, click + add:



  6. Select set up manually:



  7. Choose OpenVPN:



  8. Fill in the description and credentials that you got at step 6 of the credentials and server selection section:



  9. Import the .ovpn file that you downloaded in step 3 of the choose a Surfshark VPN server section:



  10. Click save:

 

Ensuring the connection is successful
